Testicular & Prostate Scans
This pelvic ultrasound scan in males is used to view the bladder and prostate. Indications for this are when the patient suffers from obstructive urinary symptoms e.g. delay in starting to pass urine, poor flow and incomplete emptying of the bladder. It is also indicated in symptoms of urgency where the patient has to rush to the toilet.
Amongst other conditions, male health scans can detect enlargement of the prostate (benign prostatic hypertrophy) tumours, inflammatory scrotal conditions and testicular cancer.
The Sonographer will move a probe lubricated with warm gel over your lower abdomen to obtain necessary images.
Please attend your appointment with a full bladder, therefore we advise you to drink 2-3 cups of water prior to your appointment. This is required to allow the Sonographer to view the organs behind the bladder.
The male health scan will be carried out by a qualified Sonographer. The procedure is non-invasive and painless. The Sonographer will move a transducer lubricated with warm gel over the area to be examined. You are welcome to ask questions during your examination. The results are immediate and a written report will be given to you for your doctor. The doctor will interpret the scan and provide treatment if necessary. Testicular (Scrotal) scans
A scrotal or testicular scan is an examination of the testis, epididymis and scrotal sac. The scan usually evaluates the size and appearance of the testis in the investigation of masses or inflammation. Abnormal amounts of fluid around the testis will be documented as well as the blood flow in the testes. Sometimes abnormal cysts or veins can be seen.
You will be asked to remove you trousers and underwear and you will be covered with a towel. You may request a chaperone if you are uncomfortable. The scan is conducted in a professional platform.
Gel will be applied and a sonar examination will be performed.
The examination is quick and the results are immediate. A written report will be given to you.
